Rain Gauge

This device is a meteorological instrument designed for accurate, automated, and remote measurement of precipitation. It leverages the widely adopted tipping bucket mechanism for measurement and integrates solar power and GSM technology for stand-alone operation and real-time data transmission to a cloud server.

DescriptionDescription

1. Key Features

  • Automated Rainfall Measurement: Utilizes the reliable tipping bucket mechanism for accurate, continuous precipitation logging.
  • Remote Data Transmission: Integrated GSM module enables seamless, wireless transmission of rainfall data to a remote cloud server.
  • Energy Autonomous: Powered by an integrated solar panel, making it suitable for deployment in remote locations without external power infrastructure.
  • Robust Construction: Designed for outdoor installation, featuring a robust structure (likely PVC or similar weather-resistant material) to withstand various weather conditions.
  • High Sensitivity: Measures and logs precipitation with a specified volume resolution of 0.4 mm per pulse.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Also measures ambient temperature and humidity for comprehensive meteorological data collection.

2. Operation

The operation is straightforward and fully automatic:

  1. Collection: Rainfall is collected by the large funnel collector at the top.
  2. Metering: The water is channeled into an internal tipping bucket unit. When the volume reaches precisely 0.4mm, the bucket tips, instantly emptying the water and generating a single electrical pulse.
  3. Counting: The integrated electronic circuit registers this pulse, increasing the total count.
  4. Powering: The solar panel charges an internal battery to power the electronics and the GSM module.
  5. Environmental Sensing: Temperature and humidity sensors continuously record ambient conditions.
  6. Transmission: At pre-set intervals, the GSM module connects to the mobile network and securely transmits the accumulated pulse count data to the cloud server for real-time monitoring and analysis.

3. Deployment and Maintenance

  • Installation: Must be mounted securely on a level surface or pole, ensuring the collector is perfectly horizontal to guarantee measurement accuracy.
  • Calibration: Periodic calibration checks are recommended to ensure the tipping bucket mechanism continues to accurately measure 0.4mm.
  • Maintenance: Occasional cleaning of the funnel opening is required to prevent blockages from debris (leaves, dirt) that could compromise measurement accuracy.
  • Connectivity: Requires a location with adequate GSM network coverage for reliable data transmission.
  • Sensor Care: Ensure temperature and humidity sensors are unobstructed and clean for accurate readings.
